Every REACH program reflects our core value – growing up by giving back. REACH remains committed the tenet that community service promotes character and self-respect while also teaching students the critical life skills they will need in order to succeed–including organization, perseverance, timeliness, and creativity.
REACH students, with the help of volunteers as program graduates, plan and execute community service events in the Washington, DC area. Last year, REACH students eagerly participated in many community service activities including:
- Regularly preparing and serving lunch to the homeless
- Planting gardens and painting fences in several housing projects and communities
- Helping families in need during the Christmas season
- Delivering more than 500 Christmas stockings to needy children in the DMV
- Hosting picnics to highlight the need for family health insurance and of sign people up for affordable healthcare
- Holding voter registration events
- Teaching children the basics of football, basketball, soccer and cheerleading
- Participating in river cleanup events for the Anacostia and the Potomac
- Organizing back-to-school kickoff that included field day and provision of free school supplies in challenged communities
- Participating in several homeless walkathons to raise money for those without homes – the most vulnerable maembers of our community.
